Hans J. Wegner

Hans J. Wegner (1914-2007)

was one of Denmark’s supreme designers of chairs. He was a trained cabinetmaker and graduated from the School of Architecture in Copenhagen. Wegner worked as an assistant to Arne Jacobsen before he went solo in the mid 1940s and opened his own workshop in Gentofte where he earned a reputation as a craftsman and a world-class designer. The consistent quality and the outstanding manufacture became Wegner’s trademark and throughout his carrier he has designed about 500 chairs of which several have won international awards.
